Lorton D. Mahn

Lorton D. Mahn, age 87, of Merrill, died Friday, May 01, 2015, at Ministry St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston. 
Lorton was born October 23, 1927, in the Town of Corning, son of the late Arthur and Mabel (Kleinschmidt) Mahn. He married Duane Williquette on March 26, 1949. She preceded him in death on September 11, 2014. Lorton has been employed at the former Anson-Gilkey Company for 34 years, and retired at age 54 when the company closed. Lorton was the youngest of three boys and spoke German and Pomeranian as a small child. As a boy, Lorton attended the Greendale School. At age 7, Lorton and his family moved to Merrill, and he attended Trinity Lutheran School. As a teenager, Lorton started working in a local logging camp. At age 18, Lorton was drafted into the military and had his basic training at Camp Lee, Virginia. He served overseas for two years in Korea and returned home just prior to the start of the Korean War. Lorton obtained the rank of sergeant. In 1972, Lorton and his wife Duane built their country dream home on 80 acres in Lincoln County that included a trout stream. They both enjoyed nature and the wonderful life of country living with their Labrador ‘Max’ and Dachshund ‘Molly’. Lorton loved his family and the close friendships of his son in law, Gene Eagan and Roy Schulz. In his later years Lorton resided at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, and his family wishes to thank the nursing home for the wonderful care given to him. 
Survivors include his daughter, Kristine (Gene) Eagan of Prairie du Sac; his son, Scott L. Mahn, Merrill; and one brother, Orville Mahn of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Besides his wife and parents, Lorton is preceded in death by one brother, Lavern Mahn. 
A Private Family Funeral Service will be held. Entombment will be in Merrill Memorial Park Mausoleum with graveside military rites conducted by the Merrill V.F.W. Post 1638 Honor Guard. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family.
