Arthur H. Schmidt

Arthur H. Schmidt, age 89, of Merrill, died Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill.  
Art was born January 1, 1926, in Wisconsin, son of the late Arthur and Martha (Hass) Schmidt.  He married Phyllis Kleinschmidt on September 15, 1945.  She preceded him in death on March 20, 2013.  Art had dairy farmed in the Town of Scott until 1956 and then moved to the Town of Texas to farm.  He had also worked as an iron worker.  Art was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Merrill.  He loved spending time with his family.  He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, pontoon boat rides, traveling, playing cards and dancing in his younger years.  
Survivors include his four daughters, Polly (Jody) Malik of Capitola, CA, Patricia (Jeff) Reynolds of Tony, WI, Brenda Lueken of Owatonna, MN, and Michelle (Rick) Allman of Merrill; eight sons, Dennis (Ver Jean) Schmidt of Merrill, Michael (Sue) Schmidt of New Auburn, WI, Gerald (Linda) Schmidt of Michigan City, IN, Stephen Schmidt of Wausau, Randy (Peggie) Schmidt of Elk Mound, WI, Thomas (Sally) Schmidt of Merrill, Richard (Roxann) Schmidt of Wausau, and Kevin (Lisa) Schmidt of Merrill; 33 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Selma Adams and Elsie Bade both of Merrill; and many nieces and nephews.  Arthur was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Schmidt; his parents, Arthur and Martha Schmidt; his daughter, Karen Schmidt; three grandchildren, Shane Schmidt, Collin Schultz, and Nickole VanHecker; three sisters, Lillian Zimmerman, Laura Hahn, and Dorothea Kleinschmidt; and five brothers, Norman, Elmer, Alfred, Fritz, and Rueben Schmidt.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, April 23, 2015, at the Holy Cross Chapel at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill.  The Rev. James Weiland will officiate.  Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Town of Scott.  Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and after 10:30 A.M. Thursday at the Holy Cross Chapel at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill.
