Tomahawk boys split week?s hoops fare

The Hatchet boys puled out a 58-53 non-league win over Ladysmith last Tuesday, but Mosinee kept it from becoming a streak with Friday’s 65-36 victory.
Tomahawk jumped out to 14-9 and 35-20 leads in the first half on the smoking shooting of Justin Jarvensivu, who scored 19 on his way to 30 for the game.
“We played a very good half on both ends of the floor,” THS coach Tim Albert said. “We executed well and Justin had the hot hand and we did a nice job of getting him the ball. On defense, we limited their penetration, challenged their perimeter shots and did a real nice job on the defensive glass.”
The Lumberjacks cut the lead to 47-38 after three quarters and to five in the fourth, but got no closer.
Backing up Jarvensivu were: Roessler (10 points), Brandon Vecchio (6), Easton Phalin (3), Andrew Olson (2), and Jordan Shilts (2) and Riley Schiltz (2).

The Hatchets hung within 14-12 for a quarter, but visiting Mosinee pulled away to 52-22 with 19-6, and 19-4 frames. The locals worked a 14-13 edge in the fourth.
“We had too many lazy passes that were stolen and converted to easy baskets on our end of the floor (in the second quarter),” Albert said. “Their pressure got to us in the third, we played too fast and didn’t run our offense. They took advantage and scored easy baskets.”
THS was paced by Kyle Olson (7), Roessler (6), Jarvensivu (6), Vecchio (6), Riley Tollison (6), Phalin (3) and Han McMahon (2).
