Swiss artwork featured at library

Thanks to Merrill area resident Susanna Juon-Gilk, T.B. Scott Free Library is exhibiting the artwork of her father, Andreas Juon, as the latest Beyond Books-Community ArtShare display.  The artwork will be on display through the month of February.
Andreas was a musician by trade, having worked as a choir teacher, private vocal teacher, and church organist. He was passionate about J.S. Bach and started a Bach choir in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Andreas loved life, was close to his family and lived to the age of 95.
The artwork on display at the library includes both pencil drawings from Juon’s early years, as well as artwork in oils and other media that he created from the 1970s through the 1990s. It covers a variety of settings, including the dramatic Swiss landscape, still lifes, and human and animal subjects.
The art displayed at the library is just a small portion of Juon’s work, which is divided between his children. Several pieces of Juon’s art are also currently on exhibit at a gallery in Zurich, Switzerland.
Juon displayed talent in both art and music from an early age, and one item in the library’s exhibit combines those two strong interests. For many years, he composed for family and friends a special New Year’s greeting—an original musical composition (a round or hymn) accompanied by a print of his artwork.
Community ArtShare is designed to display works from the Merrill area community. If you have a collection that you would like to display at the library, please call (715) 536-7191 or send an email [email protected] with information about your collection.
The Juon artwork display is on view during library hours and is located on the second floor in the Carnegie Wing reading area. Community ArtShare is made possible by the support of the Mead Witter Foundation, Inc. of Wisconsin Rapids.
