Tomahawk taking to state experience

The Hatchet volleyball team entered the state tournament with a 33-3 record, and they played up that level in the WIAA D2 state semifinals with Waupun.

Tomahawk pulled down a solid four-set triumph in consistent fashion by a 25-20, 25-20 14-25, 25-20 tally.

Hanna Meyer led the Hatchets with 18 kills and 12 digs, while Anna Nyberg backed it up with 15 and 12. Becca Doughty offered 39 assists, 3 block assists and 6 digs, and Emily Schneider gave 6 kills and 6 block assists. Hannah Feest dug 10.

The victory sets up a Saturday final with Catholic Memorial (39-11), beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Marathon (32-3) will face Waterloo (36-4)  in an 11:30 a.m. final in D3, after a four-set victory over Cameron.

Wausau Newman Catholic (38-3) will meet Southwestern (29-3)  in a 9:00 a.m. D4 final, after the Cardinals’ five-set win over Clayton.
