Carolyn M. Hitz, of Merrill, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014 at Eastview Medical and Rehabilitation Center in Antigo. She was 69 years old.
She was born on Sept. 3, 1945 in Antigo, a daughter of the late Clarence and Marion (Boettcher) Hitz.
She was a 1964 graduate of Antigo High School. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and received her Bachelors Degree in education in 1968; she later received her Masters Degree.
Miss Hitz was a seventh grade English and Social Studies teacher at the Merrill Junior High School for many years.
She was a member of Faith United Church of Christ in Antigo.
She enjoyed league bowling in Merrill, Antigo and in state and national tournaments. She also enjoyed going to Hodag and Fuddfest Country Music Festivals.
Survivors include sister, Joan Foster of Weston; best friend, Sharon Sinkler of Antigo and Sharon’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by the children and grandchildren of the late Herman Rueger, her companion of many years.
Carolyn will also be missed by her beloved dog, Misty, and cats, Cali and Fluffy.
She was preceded in death by her parents and companion, Herman.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bradley Funeral Home in Antigo with Rev. Dana Schindler officiating. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
