Carol G. Sousek

Carol G. Sousek, age 83, of Merrill, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services at Pine Crest Nursing Home.
She was born Nov. 25, 1930 in Wisconsin Rapids to the late Charles and Mabel (Phillips) VanKeuren. On Aug. 5, 1950 in Beloit, WI she married her soul mate, Farrell Sousek. They were together over 62 years until his passing on June 16, 2012.
After High School, Carol attended Technical College where she earned her title of CNA. As a young adult she got involved with radio and even had her own program for a short time. Carol was a very independent woman and worked as a CNA for many years. She was the family matriarch and her entire family looked up to her. She loved her family unconditionally and always had time for them. Carol was an amazing mother! When her children were young they each got their 1-on-1 time with mom, something she carried over to her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She was a homebody and loved to bake. Carol had a smile that never ended and was a wonderful storyteller. She loved to garden and even had a “Rocky” garden. Carol loved her dog “Rocky”-he had her number! She babied him something terrible! She was a long time member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and a past member of Grace Lutheran in Tomahawk.
Survivors include her seven children: Farrell “Dean” Sousek Jr, Tomah, Daniel (Tammy) Sousek, Fall Creek, David Sousek (Chris Quade), Merrill, Robert (Kristen) Sousek, Sioux Falls, ND, Kristy (Peter) Schwartz, Merrill, Thomas Sousek, Weston, and Susanne (Gary Pfuhl)  Sousek, Merrill; 27 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren; and two sister-in-laws: Alice VanKeuren, Boca Raton, FL, and Dorine VanKeuren, Sparta.
