Search warrant turns up $74,000 worth of meth

A couple is facing felony charges of dealing methamphetamine from their Merrill home. Karen J. Zais, 47, and Andrew A. Nelson, 30, are both charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine after a search warrant at their Ackerman Road home turned up more than 13 ounces of the drug, with a street value of $74,000.
According to court records, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office served the search warrant on the residence June 4. They found a room in the basement where the meth, scales, baggies, marijuana, pipes and cash were located. Officers seized numerous items from the residence including over $1,500 cash.
Court records indicate that Nelson told investigators he ordered large quantities of meth and stored and sold it from the basement of the home. He said his girlfriend, Zais, was aware of it and participated in selling the meth on occasion.
Zais admitted to using meth, but denied knowledge of it being sold from the home.
Judge Rob Russell set bond at $100,000 for each defendant, including $2,500 cash bonds and $97,500 signature bonds. Both will appear in court again June 19.
