Prairie River Middle School 15th Annual Civil War Day

On Friday, May 23, PRMS 8th grade social studies students participated in the 15th annual American Civil War Day. Stange’s Park was transformed into an 1860’s military encampment with living historians giving students hands-on lessons in many different areas of American culture during the 1860’s. Students are assigned infantry regiments representing both the Union & Confederacy, and they are required to “dress up” in colors and styles similar to those worn by soldiers during the War Between the States. It is truly an inspirational sight when 200 “soldiers” march over the arched bridge into Stange’s Park, following their regimental banners to the fife and drum cadence of their own military band.
