Aaaarrrrr, Matey?It?s City Band Time!

The snow is finally gone and it’s time to think about Wednesday night City Band concerts at Normal Park. The band will begin its 2015 season at the Memorial Day ceremony on May 26, with gazebo concerts starting in June.

“Shiver Me Timbers: Music and Mayhem” will open the concert season on June 25, with an evening of pirate fun for everyone. It’s the band’s annual dress-up night, and as many audience members know from past events, this should provide for some great entertainment. Joining the band for the evening will be a merry bunch of “Thirsty Night Pirates” and vocalist Jennifer Aarrestad, or for this concert, Jennifer Aaaaaarrrrrrrestad.

Concessions will be available for sale beginning at 5 p.m., including burgers, popcorn, beverages, “Pirate’s Booty” ice cream, pie, and much more. There will be many activities for kids: face-painting (complete with colorful pirate eye-patch), digging for buried treasure, coloring contest, walking the plank, and more. Raffle tickets will be sold for the chance to light the fire that shoots the cannon several times during the night. More information will be coming as the date nears. Rain date for this concert is set for July 9.

On July 2, the band will present “From Sea To Shining Sea.” All veterans, auxiliary members, and service members and their families are invited to attend as the band honors them in a patriotic tribute.

Other performances will follow every Wednesday thereafter, through Aug. 6. Should two or more concerts get cancelled because of inclement weather, the band will present an additional concert on Aug. 13.

All concerts begin at 7 p.m. and the ever-popular 50-50 raffle and prize drawings will continue. You can also catch the band on parade in Tomahawk on the 4th of July and on Labor Day in Merrill.
