Hatchet diamond nine finds ways to win

The Hatchet baseball team racked a trio of wins last week, topping Medford twice last Monday and edging Rhinelander 2-1 in extras on Friday.
“This was another exciting extra-inning game,” THS coach Wes Roessler said of the Hodag contest. “One mistake can cost you in games like this and we were lucky to not let things get out of hand.
“What I like about this group of guys is that they don’t get rattled. In clutch situations, they are calm and stay focused.
“Fletcher pitched a great game. Chris did a nice job in relief and put us in a position to win. Both Lorne and Aaron had great nights at the plate. They both delivered in clutch situations.”

Ripping the Raiders

The Hatchets pulled out a 4-3 triumph in nine innings when Kaleb Kaminski was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
“This was a classic pitching duel and a nail-biter ’til the end,” Roessler said. “Kevin pitched a great game. The team showed a lot of character in not giving up after Medford took the lead in the top of the ninth. It is probably not how Kaleb planned his first walk-off RBI, but it works.”
Bolder led off the ninth with a double, and scored when Ahrens reached on an error. Leonard and Isaac Schoone walked to load the bases with two outs. Kaminski was hit by pitch on full count to end the game.
Medford–    000 010 101–3.
Tomahawk– 000 200 002–4.

Tomahawk ended up taking Game 2 by a 10-0 tally  in nasty conditions.
“Jared (Jarvensivu) pitched an outstanding game in tough conditions,” Roessler said. “It rained the whole time and there was standing water on the field for most of the game.
“In the third inning, Jordan drilled a home run over the left-center wall to give us a 2 run lead. I was hoping we could hold on to that lead and thankfully the whole team came to life. In the fourth, everyone in the lineup scored except one and he drove in a run on a sac fly.”
Tomahawk– 002 80–10.
