Floyd D. Lemon, age 85, of Merrill, died Sunday, March 23, 2014, at his home under the care of his family and Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services.
Floyd was born Oct. 23, 1928, in Houston, TX, son of the late Guy and Mary Helen (Syma) Lemon. He married Sylvia Turner on June 15, 1948 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill. She survives.
Floyd enlisted in the United States Navy on Nov. 6, 1945 in Houston, TX. He was honorably discharged as a Radio Man Third Class (RM3) on Nov. 8, 1947 in San Francisco, CA. Floyd worked in a number of different sales positions, including insuring dairy plants and farmers with health and life insurance. He had a passion for serving his clients. He was also known around the area for tuning pianos. Floyd was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill. He was a life-member of V.F.W. Post 1638, Merrill. Floyd was also a member of the National Rifle Association, the Knights of Columbus, and he was a Senior Member of the Commission on Aging. He taught Hunter’s Safety for 30 years and served two terms on the Lincoln County Board. Floyd greatly enjoyed the opening seasons of fishing and hunting, and going to the ranch in Wyoming. Floyd and Sylvia traveled extensively and made many trips around the states to visit family members.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Sylvia Lemon of Merrill; four daughters, Sue (Scott) Williams of Cave Creek, AZ, Marilyn Lemon of Wausau, Jean (Lonnie) Balthazor of Kaukauna, and Amy (Mike) Stiver of Merrill; three sons, Dale Lemon of Tomahawk, David Lemon of Merrill and Dan (Debi Fehr) Lemon of Merrill; 14 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter on-the-way; one sister, Lorraine (Arthur Lee) Slott of New Waverly, TX; and one brother, Lloyd “Randy” Lemon of Houston, TX. Floyd was preceded in death by a grandson, Mitchell Lemon; three sisters, Margaret Lemon Hodge, Mary Lou Lemon Smith and Loretta Hagan; and one brother, Charles Lemon.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill. Father Michael McLain will preside. Burial will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, with graveside military rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 1638, Merrill. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, with a Time of Remembrance at 6:45 p.m. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
