Edward ?Jack? Oldenburg
Edward “Jack” Oldenburg, age 89, of Woodruff, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014 at Seasons of Life Hospice House.
He was born on March 1, 1924 in Antigo, the son of Edward and Viola (nee Hoye) Oldenburg. Jack is a proud U.S. Army Air Force Veteran. He served in the 72nd Fighter Squadron as a crew chief on fighter air craft during the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. Jack spent time on Iwo Jima and Makin Island. He was proud to have earned the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Campaign Service Medal with three bronze service stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the American Theatre Service Medal. He worked for over 30 years in Postal Service, predominately as a Postmaster in Lac du Flambeau. Jack had been a member of the Masons since 1950 and was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth (nee Iwen) Oldenburg; son, Edward Mark (Paula) Oldenburg; daughters, Linda Oldenburg, Sara (Bill) Kuchler, Janelle (Kurt) Kohl, Susan (Larry) Okray and 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Maxine Schmitz, Eidel Sandberg, LouEva Rehm and Peggy Roberts.
A private memorial service was held on Monday, Jan. 27, at Bolger Funeral Home Woodruff Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment with full Military Honors was at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Arbor Vitae. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Legion, Myasthenia Gravis Foundation, Calvary Lutheran Church or Seasons of Life Hospice House.
