Thirty six Merrill High School Art students worked together to create this 10’ x 12’ mural that can be viewed from both the first and second floor at Merrill High School. The painting is a reproduction of Leonid Afremov’s, “Paris-Montmartre.” World renowned artist Leonid Afremov is a Russian – Israeli modern impressionistic artist who works mainly with a palette knife and oils. He developed his own unique technique and style which is unmistakable and cannot be confused with other artists. Leonid Afremov currently resides in Quintana Roo, Mexico near Cancun.
Leonid Afremov graciously granted permission for the students to reproduce “Paris-Montmartre.” Each student painted a 20” x 24” section under the direction of Linda DeBroux and the help of Steven Roets. The sections were then pieced together and installed by Bill Boyd. This spectacular painting became the 111th mural addition to the walls of Merrill High School and can be viewed by the public at the upcoming Mural Open House and Art Show on Feb. 1 from Noon to 4 p.m.
