Garage destroyed by fire

The Merrill Fire Department was dispatched Tuesday night just before 8:30 p.m. by the Lincoln County 911 Communications Center for a report of a garage on fire at W4708 County Road G in the Town of Merrill. Incident Command along with Merrill Fire personnel responded to the scene initially with Engine 2, Medic 1, Tender 5 and Car 60.
Upon arrival, Merrill’s Incident Commander reported a fully involved detached garage fire. Command called for a defensive fire attack from outside of the structure. Fire personnel deployed two 1 3/4” inch hose lines to the fire. Two Merrill Police Officers shoveled a path to the fire hydrant across the street from the structure. The attack crew extinguished the fire with water and foam. Overhaul of the garage and smoldering items were removed and extinguished.
Merrill fire units were on scene for about two hours and were assisted by the Merrill Police Department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.
According to the fire department, the cause is believed to be from the wood burning stove in the garage, it is not considered suspicious.
The structure and contents of the garage were a total loss. No injuries were reported.
