Melvin H. Marschall

Melvin H. “Mel” “Mick” Marschall of Waukesha, WI entered immortality on Oct. 26, 2013.
He was born in Wausau, Aug. 20, 1927 to the late Rudolph and Selma (Seehafer) Marschall. On Aug. 21, 1954 he married Alice Johnson of Irma at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Alice preceded Mick in death in 2002.
He was in the class of 1945 at Wausau Senior High School and also a graduate of Chicago Linotype School. He served in combat in the Korean War as an Infantry Platoon Sergeant. A draftee, Mick attained the rank of Master Sergeant in 22 months and then proudly served as Company 1st Sergeant for the U.S. Army. Mick worked as a railway clerk for the Milwaukee Road for 12 years, sold and leased railroad cars with GATX for 30 years, then joined Pittsburg Tank & Tower as Regional Sales Manager until he entered full retirement.
Mick was a lifetime member of the VFW 40th Infantry Division Korean War Veteran’s Association, a former member of the Milwaukee Traffic Club and MTC bowling league. He attended services at Ascension Lutheran Church, Waukesha. Mel enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially the Wisconsin Badgers and the Green Bay Packers and was a former Boy Scout Leader.
Mick is survived by his sons, Randy (Sandy) Marschall of Ingleside, IL, Dr. Jon (Catherine) Marschall of Waukesha, WI; brother, Clarence (Helen) Marschall of Rib Mountain; sister, Virginia Roche of Wausau; and loving best friend, Marge Petaja of Tomahawk. Grandchildren include: Sheila, James and twins, Hannah and Ben of Ingleside, IL, and Justin and Caitlin of Waukesha, WI. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Alice; his infant daughter, Lynne Renee Marschall; and his brother, Earl “Pat” Marschall of Berwyn, IL.
The visitation for Mick will be held from 4:30 p.m. until the 6:30 p.m. funeral service on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the Cesarz, Charapata, and Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd. Waukesha, WI. A second visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 300 Logan St., Merrill. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church. Entombment will take place in Merrill Memorial Park Mausoleum, Merrill, with military honors conducted by the Merrill VFW Post #1638 honor guard. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the Marschall family with local arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Mel may be given to the American Cancer Society.
