Susan Steffen

Susan Steffen, age 71, of Merrill, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Susan was born on Dec. 5, 1941, in Merrill, daughter of the late Jake and Jeanette (Harbath) Michalski.
She was a loan officer at Park City Credit Union, Merrill, for 32 Years. She retired in July of 2011. Susan also worked part-time at Dave’s County Market in Merrill. She was a long-standing member of the Merrill Optimist Club and really looked forward to the meetings and various events hosted by the club. She also volunteered for the Park City Credit Union Relay for Life Team. Susan enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and lending a helping hand when she could. She also enjoyed taking trips to casinos.
Survivors include one daughter, Lori (Brian) Baumgart, of Merton, WI; one son, Todd (Deniale) Steffen, of Merrill; three grandchildren, Amanda (Jonathon) Washa, Oshkosh, Bradley Baumgart, of Waunakee, and Matthew Steffen, of Merrill; four sisters, Mary Ann Mares, of Weston, Janet Plautz, of Merrill, Faye Nelson, of Merrill, and JoAnn (Rodney) Rothmeyer, of Weston; two brothers, Tommy (Bev) Michalski, of Merrill, and Jimmy (Jaye) Michalski, of Rhinelander; and several other relatives and close friends. Susan was preceded in death by her former husband and special friend, Robert Steffen; one brother, Larry Michalski; one sister-in-law, Karen Michalski; and two brothers-in-law, James Plautz and Donald “Nels” Nelson.
The memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 25, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. The Rev. Ray Connor will officiate. The family will receive friends beginning at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The family wishes to thank Susan’s hematologist, Dr. Hamied Rezazadeh, and the Aspirus O.C.U. staff.
