Radio station move

While the Lincoln House is being dismantled around them, Merrill radio station WJMT/Z104 is planning a move to a new location.

Station Operations Manager Jim Medley said the station will be moving to the former City Transfer building between the Sixth Ward bridges. The newly renovated building is undergoing further interior renovations to serve as office space for the station, which will occupy approximately 1,000 square feet of the building.

With the city anxious to get the Lincoln House demolition underway, the radio station is also anxious to get out. Medley said they plan to relocate “as soon as we can, hopefully by Halloween. There’s no one that wants out more than me.”

The radio station has been located in the Lincoln House since 1994. With miles of wiring, automation computers, satellite components and other electronics, moving a radio station is no mean feat, Medley said. With the help of a radio engineer, the new space is being designed for a more modern and simpler layout, Medley said.

“I’m excited to get into an up to date facility in a clean, healthy environment,” he said.
