Gilbert J. Krause, age 83, of Merrill, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born Nov. 25, 1929 in Merrill to the late John and Anna (Koehler) Krause. Gilbert and Phyllis Kottke were united in marriage June 25, 1955 in Merrill, a union lasting over 52 years. She preceded him in death July 5, 2007.
Gilbert graduated from Merrill High School, class of 1947. He was a farmer his whole life. Gilbert was also a logger and enjoyed making firewood. He liked to busy himself picking rocks on the farm. Among other hobbies, Gilbert enjoyed listening to Polka music and playing cards. He enjoyed deer hunting in the Merrill area for many years. Gilbert was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill.
Survivors include his son, John (Bonnie) Krause, Merrill; two grandchildren, Joshua Krause and Adam Krause; three great-grandchildren, Mackenah Krause, Johnny Krause and Ace Krause; sister Phyllis (LJ) Kottke; brother, Eddie (Emogene) Krause; eight sisters-in-law, Carol (Phil) Krause, Joanne (Roger) Ruehs, Marlene (Don) Johnson, Betty Kottke, Kathy Kottke, Ginny Kottke, Marion Kottke, Lavine Krause; and three brothers-in-law, Wallace (Judy) Kottke, Wayne (Ev) Kottke and Delmar Zocher. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Phyllis; brother, Lawrence; two sisters, Sylvia (Snoddie) Sturm and LaVila (Elroy) Schmidt, two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Kottke and Donnie Kottke and sister-in-law, Margie Zocher.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 1 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Scott Gustafson officiated. Entombment followed in Merrill Memorial Park Mausoleum.
