Trio get away from MHS

After taking a couple of rough losses to top teams, the Bluejay girls tennis team pumped up its game in Thursday’s regular-season finale in Marshfield. The Tigers still managed to pull out a 4-3 win.
“Our singles players were quite successful,” MHS coach Janet Thompson said. “Annie (DeBroux) fell behind and lost the first set. But being the determined player that she’s proven to be, came back to win the next two sets, allowing her opponent only four games.
“Excellent serving was one of the keys to Chloe (Krahn)’s victory. She had quite a few aces! Her confidence and mental toughness were very evident in this match. Megan (Smith) is able to cover the court well and chase down just about every ball. Her consistency continues to pay off as she improved her overall record to 10-5.”
DeBroux prevailed 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, Krahn won 6-4, 6-0, and Smith pulled out a 7-6 [7-4], 6-0 victory. Sarah Lentz lost 6-2, 6-1 at the #4 spot. Hanna Cohrs/Rachel Bayer were edged 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 at #3 doubles, Morgan Wilde/Ashley Ollhoff were defeated 6-3, 6-4 at the #1 spot and Morgan Thompson/Katie Purmal lost 6-0, 6-2.

The MHS girls fell 7-0 at Wausau Newman last Monday and 7-0 to SPASH last Tuesday.
“We had two very tough matches,” Thompson said. “Newman and SPASH are the strongest teams in the area. The girls tried to use these challenging matches to improve on their overall game. You learn quite a bit by facing talented and experienced players.”
Against Point, the losses came by the following scores: DeBroux (6-0, 6-0); Krahn (6-3, 6-1); Smith (6-4, 7-5); Lentz (6-4, 6-1); Wilde/Ollhoff (6-0, 6-0); Thompson/Purmal (6-1, 6-0); and Bayer/Cohrs (6-1, 6-2).
