Betty Lou Myers Laphen Ashwell went home to Jesus on Sept. 23, 2013. At age 86, she passed after a courageous battle with cancer, at the home of her daughter in Merrill with her children at her side.
Survivors include her children, Morris (Marge) Laphen, of Illinois, Antonia Wilson, of Idaho, Patsy (George) Keller, of Connecticut, Ellen (Barry) Ott, of Idaho, Freida (Garth) Swanson, of Merrill, and Nick (Kathy) Laphen, of Illinois; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husbands, Kelly Laphen and Charles Ashwell; a son, Kelly Laphen; a daughter-in-law, Janice Laphen; and a stepdaughter, Carmella Lipinski.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Sept. 25, in Holy Cross Chapel at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill. Sister John Marie officiated. Burial will take place at a later date in Chat Cemetery, Town of Birch, Lincoln County. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
