Tomahawk man drowns in Spirit Flowage

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 67 year old Tomahawk man who drowned Sunday on the Spirit Flowage.
At 4:26 p.m., a 911 call reported that a man had gone missing off of a pontoon boat in the Town of Tomahawk. A witness told investigating deputies that the man had been out on the pontoon boat and went into the water to cool off and assist the family dog, who had also gone into the water. When the man reached the dog, the two struggled and the man disappeared under water.
Deputies along with Tomahawk Firefighters, Tomahawk EMS and the DNR searched the water before the man was located two hours later. The victim was found in about 5.6 feet of water by a rescue boat operated by the Rec. Deputy, as the Lincoln County dive team worked with Tomahawk Fire divers in an underwater search. Divers reported the ground was very murky, which hampered rescue efforts.
The victim, identified as David J. Lewicki, who is originally from the Milwaukee area, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lincoln County Coroner.
