THS drops first

The Hatchet football team opened the year with a disappointing 19-0 home loss to Chequamegon on Friday.
“It’s not the start we were looking for, especially playing at home and coming off a real good scrimmage a week earlier,” THS coach John Larson said. “Defensively, overall the Hatchets played well enough to win. We forced three turnovers and kept the game close. It was 7-0 midway through the third quarter. We played well inside.”
Chequamegon took that 7-0 edge with a 29-yard pass from Shane Wakefield to Sam Lehman with 7:18 left in the first quarter. The Screaming Eagles finally pushed it to 13-0 with Wakefield’s 20-yard dash with 3:09 to go in the third. Dewey Hahn capped it off with an 11-yard run with 9:08 remaining in the fourth. The kick was missed after the second TD, and a two-point try failed after the third.
The Eagles out-gained Tomahawk 380-115 behind 183 yards passing from Wakefield. Kaleb Kaminski was 3-of-13 for 61 yards with a pick, to Lorne Ahrens (1-35), Dakota Thompson (1-25) and Jordan Roessler (1-1). Jake Borchardt (7-49) and Dane Borchardt (2-9) were the leading rushers.
Pacing the THS defense were: Borchardt (4 S, 5 A, 1 PBU); Borchardt (3 S, 4 A, 1 Sa); Ahrens (3 A, 1 FF, 2 PBU, 1 int); Aaron Schoone (3 S, 6 A), Kaminski (4 S, 2 A); John Rupel (2 S, 3 A, 1 FF); Aaron Leonhard (3 S, 2 A); Roessler (2 S, 1 A); Nate Flohr (1 S, 5 A); and Isaac Schoone (1 A, 2 FR).
