Backpacks for Kids needs your help

The Backpack Project is now in high gear for the 2013 school year. A number of community organizations are working to fill over 400 backpacks for students in grades K-5 who qualify under federal guidelines.
Eligible families should bring the completed form they received in the mail to T.B. Scott Library on Aug. 24 between 9:30-11:30 a.m. The library will not open before 9:30 on the day of distribution.
Needed the most are the backpacks themselves. Any donated backpack appropriate for children in grades K-6 is appreciated. Other items needed include: primary color wide ruled notebooks, primary color folders, highlighters, glue sticks, crayons, colored pencils, washable markers, school glue, small erasers that fit on pencils, black, blue, and red pens, pencil cases, No. 2 pencils, and blunt and pointed scissors.
Donations can be dropped off at two locations, River Valley Bank and Walmart. Tax-deductible contributions can be mailed to MFTHCI-Backpacks, P.O. Box 793 in Merrill. Supplies are needed by Aug. 18 so backpacks can be prepared for distribution.
