Roman L. Radlinger

Roman L. Radlinger, age 92, of Merrill, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.
Roman was born July 31, 1920, in Park Falls, WI, son of the late Wolfgang and Theresa (Kundinger) Radlinger. He married Ruth Oesterreich on Jan. 3, 1940, in St. Anthony’s Rectory, Park Falls.
For 65 years Roman was in the oil business. The first 50 years he worked with Mobil Oil, and later he owned and operated Radlinger’s Mobil Oil. Roman was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill, where he sang with the choir and was involved with the prayer group. In his younger years, Roman played the banjo in the Radlinger Brothers Polka Band in Park Falls. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Merrill Eagles Club, the Merrill Historical Society, and the Merrill Evening Lions Club. Roman lived along the Prairie River north of Merrill and enjoyed spending time near the river. After retirement he enjoyed traveling around the country with his wife. Roman also enjoyed reading and learning throughout his life. His family will remember him as a generous man who enjoyed being a “people person.” Roman served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was medically and honorably discharged.
Survivors include his wife Ruth Radlinger, Merrill; three daughters, Judith (James) Shrock, Mary Matz, and Leah (Tom) Juhlke, all of Merrill; seven grandchildren, John (Jennifer) Purcell, Linda Purcell, DuWayne Matz, Daniel Matz, Sarah Shrock-Castro, Lisa Juhlke, and Lindsey Juhlke; three step grandchildren, Paula Mettalo, Angela (Joel) Braun, and James (Maci) Shrock; six great grandchildren, Heather (Andrew) Skutak, Holly Purcell, Cole Matz, Evan Matz, Jayden Castro, and Peyton Castro; eight step great grandchildren, Makayla Mosca-Schmidt, Brittany, Robert, and McKenna Shrock, Matt, Zack, and Megan Metallo, and Mckayla Braun; one great great grandchild, Austin Skutak; one sister, Philomene Johnston, Plover; three brothers, Joseph (Valva) Radlinger, Park Falls, Richard Radlinger, King, WI, and John (Carol) Radlinger, Vulcan, MI; many nieces and nephews; and many close friends. Along with his parents, Roman is preceded in death by five siblings, Alvin, Marie, Mike, June, and Jeanette.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill. Father Michael McLain is presiding.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to the Merrill Food Pantry, St. Francis Church, the Lincoln County Humane Society, or the Merrill Historical Society.
