Kurt J.H. Bartz, age 83, of Merrill, died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Kurt was born November 26, 1929, in Kolberg, Germany, son of the late Ernst and Anna (Battige) Bartz. He married Carol Kieser on February 7, 1959, in Abbotsford. She survives. The Bartz family moved to Merrill in July of 1960. Kurt had been employed as an accountant, first at the former R.O.W. Window Unit Manufacturing, Merrill, then at North Central Technical College, Wausau. He enjoyed feeding the birds, growing flowers, and remodeling the family home. Kurt was a proud member of the Pommerscher Verein of Central Wisconsin. He served in the U.S. Army from September 15, 1953 until his honorable discharge on August 2, 1955.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Bartz, Merrill; six sons, David (Wendy) Bartz, Wautoma; Steven Bartz (with Melissa Adams), Delavan, Wisconsin, Dan (Jana) Bartz, Winder, Georgia, Larry Bartz, Menasha, Dieter Bartz, Merrill, and Gary (Rachel) Bartz, Merrill; and 10 grandchildren. Kurt is preceded in death by one grandchild, and three siblings, Heinz, Alfred, and Gertrude.
There will be no services. Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family.
