Chamber to sponsor students for Business World

The Merrill Area Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications from Merrill high school students interested in participating in Business World this summer. The Chamber will sponsor up to four Merrill students to attend this unique business experience and represent their community.
The four students selected will spend four days and three nights on a beautiful college campus, where the students will learn how to run a business and meet new friends and mentors from all around Wisconsin, including lodging and expenses – at no cost. Selected students can choose either June 16-19 at Edgewood College in Madison or June 23-26 at St. Norbert College in De Pere.
Since 1982, over 14,000 high school students have attended Business World. Kids come from all over Wisconsin and from all different backgrounds. Students form imaginary companies and act as an executive management team with the task of turning their “company” into a financial success. In just four short days, student companies will invent a product from everyday items, build a prototype, design marketing materials, present at a tradeshow, perform a commercial skit, listen to business speakers, tour a local company, work closely with a business mentor, and meet kids from all corners of the state. All of which culminates in the students writing a business plan and presenting to a panel of “Shareholders.”
“We are thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity to Merrill students,” said Debbe Kinsey, Chamber executive director. “We believe strongly in helping our kids reach their full potential and this unique experience will help develop the students as our future business and community leaders of tomorrow.”
This opportunity is being made possible through a grant provided by the Merrill Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Inc. The foundation is the 501(c)3, not-for-profit charitable organizational arm of the Merrill Chamber of Commerce.
Students can pick up an application at the Chamber office. Completed applications must be returned to the Chamber by March 29. Applications must be signed by a teacher or school official and the student’s parent/guardian. For information contact the Chamber at 715-536-9474.
