A 33 year old Gleason woman was taken into custody early Monday morning after deputies executed a search warrant at a home in the Town of Schley. Deputies went to the home in the 4000 block of State Rd 17 along with agents from the United States Department of Health and Human Services in attempt to locate Estella Melchor of Gleason, Melchor who previously lived in Mountain, South Dakota was wanted on a federal warrant for failing to pay child support. Melchor was taken into custody just after 6:30 a.m., and was turned over to federal authorities at the scene.
Blowing snow caused numerous problems on the roadways on Wednesday evening. Just before 5 p.m. the first report of a vehicle leaving the roadway was received on US Hwy 51, and in the next two hours deputies with the assistance of a warden from the DNR responded to 14 slide offs and five crashes, most of which were roll overs. Additional deputies were called in to assist with investigating the incidents and providing lights while tow trucks removed vehicles. By 7 p.m. the Highway Department was able to catch up with the snow and traffic flow returned to normal. On Thursday deputies investigated a few additional slide offs as motorists contended with large snow drifts on east and west roads.
A deputy along with the Merrill Fire Department responded Thursday to a skid-steer on fire in the Town of Scott. At noon a 911 call reported the fire on Glen Drive at the Roth Farm. According to the owner a farm hand was using the machine to haul cattle feed when he saw flames coming from the cab. The skid steer was valued at $17,900 and was considered a total loss.
A 31 year old Tomahawk man is in the Lincoln County Jail and a 32 year old Tomahawk woman will be referred to the Lincoln County District Attorney after a deputy investigated a vehicle in the ditch Friday night in the Town of Bradley. Just before 9 p.m. a cell caller reported a vehicle in the ditch on County Rd A south of US Hwy 51. When the deputy arrived he saw a glass jar with marijuana sitting in plain view on the passenger side floor. Jason D. Echterling told the deputy the marijuana belonged to his girlfriend but admitted smoking some of it Friday morning. The girlfriend later confirmed ownership of the drug. Echterling was brought to the Lincoln County Jail on a charge of probation violation; the girlfriend will be summonsed into court for possession of marijuana.
Two people will be cited after deputies investigated a reported underage drinking party in the Town of Corning. Deputies went to a residence on Fork’s Road and noted several people outside of the residence holding silver cans but all of them retreated inside of the residence before contact could be made. While deputies were notifying parents of their vehicles being parked at a residence where drinking was taking place one of the party guests, a 17 year old Merrill woman, called the Sheriff’s Office to report a reckless driver on State Rd 64. The woman left her name and dispatchers were aware the caller’s mother’s car was parked at the Fork’s Rd residence leading deputies to believe she called in a false report in order to get deputies to leave the area. She will be cited for obstructing. Just after 3 a.m. one of the deputies who was at the party saw one of the vehicles that was at the residence leaving a gas station on E. Main Street in the City of Merrill. When the deputy stopped the vehicle he found a case of beer in the back seat. The 19 year old driver from Wausau was cited for minor transporting intoxicants.
A 24 year old Tomahawk man was arrested Saturday afternoon on warrants through two different agencies after a deputy and Tomahawk Police Officer followed up on a tip about a wanted person. A caller phoned the Sheriff’s Office and advised that Vincent J. Loka would be working at a business off of North Fourth Street in the City of Tomahawk on Saturday. When law enforcement arrived they located Loka and took him into custody on warrants through the Merrill and Rothschild Police Departments. Loka was brought to the Lincoln County Jail where he was able to post bond and be released.
The Rec. Deputy reported the county’s trails and lakes were filled with outdoor sports enthusiast this week but reminds trail riders to use caution with the warm weather predicted later this week. Open water can already be found on the trail crossing the Prairie River north of County Rd G off of County Rd K.
Only one person reported striking a deer this past week in Lincoln County. Last week there were none.
