Elaine A. Roskos

Elaine A. Roskos, age 78, formerly of Merrill, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at Laurel Oaks in Glendale, Wisconsin.
Elaine was born September 4, 1934, in Milwaukee, daughter of the late John and Cecelia (Kress) Kauer. She married Frank Roskos on December 29, 1956, in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on August 19, 1995. Elaine was a graduate of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Marshfield. Her nursing career began at the V.A. Hospital, Milwaukee. After marrying Frank, the family moved to Merrill and Elaine continued her nursing career at Holy Cross Hospital. She then served as a floor nurse at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill. She was promoted to In Service Director at Pine Crest, then Director of Nursing at Pine Crest, and became the Patient Service Coordinator. Elaine earned her administrators license and was promoted to administrator at Pine Crest. At the time of her retirement, Elaine was the administrator of Marywood Convalescent Center, Wausau. After retirement Elaine served as a consultant with the Dr. Kate Convalescent Center in Woodruff. Elaine served on the Pine Crest Nursing Home Board of Trustee’s, and was a former board member and president of the Wisconsin Nurses Association.
Elaine enjoyed flower gardening and volunteered her time at Pine Crest and St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, where she would tend to the gardens at both facilities. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and was a volunteer and board member at Habitat for Humanity. Elaine enjoyed basket weaving, traveling the world, antiquing, her pet dogs, and spending time with family and friends at her lakeside property in Eagle River, Wisconsin. She also enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, knitting, and sewing. Elaine created two baptismal garments for her great grandchildren.
Elaine is survived by three children, Jean Curtis, Merrill, Ann Roskos (with husband, Rob Orlowski) of Grafton, and Mark (wife, Paulette) Roskos of Oakland, Maine; five grandchildren, Andrew (wife, Jennifer) Curtis, Medford, Sarah (husband, Brad) Matthias, Merrill, and Haley, Matthew, and Jackson Orlowski, all of Grafton; and one sister, Mariangela (husband, William) Pledl, New Berlin, Wisconsin. Beside her parents and husband, Elaine is preceded in death by a sister, Rita Zagar and a brother, Patrick Kauer.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 A.M. Monday, March 4, 2013, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Merrill. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Sunday and from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Monday, all at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to Pine Crest Nursing Home, Habitat for Humanity, or St. Francis Cemetery.
