Elaine H. Tewes, 87, of Merrill, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center.
She was born January 14, 1926 in Merrill to the late Carl & Augusta (Wieland) Mueske. On June 14, 1947, Elaine and Arthur E. Tewes were united in marriage at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill. He preceded her in death October 18, 1991.
Elaine worked many years as a telephone operator for Wisconsin Telephone Company. She had also worked as a clerk for Associated Co-op and later as a clerk for Livingston’s Department Store. In her younger years, Elaine enjoyed sewing, crafting, gardening and reading. More recently she enjoyed spending her time playing cards with her friends at Jenny Towers. Elaine was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and served on the Altar Guild and Finance Committee and was also a member of Good Samaritan Auxiliary.
Survivors include her son: Tom (Marilyn) Tewes, Green Bay, WI; four grandchildren: Michael (Emily) Tewes, Amy (Nick) Brunette, all of Green Bay, Tony (Katie) Tewes, Bothell, WA, and James Tewes, Streamwood, IL; one great-grandchild: Norah Tewes, Green Bay, WI; sister: Lorraine Berry, Berryville, VA; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl & Augusta Mueske, husband, Arthur Tewes, and brothers, Ralph Mueske and Carl Mueske.
Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, February 1, 2013 at Waid Funeral Home. The Rev. David Szeto will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
