Merkel signs record deal

Giving thanks in song, Christian artist Debbie Merkel of Merrill has signed on the dotted line with record label Musik and Film. Debbie’s new album, On Heaven’s Wings, will be released to worldwide distribution. In September the song On Heaven’s Wings was released to 25 states and to Canada and Africa. Radio promotions for her newest single, How Do I Say Goodbye, will begin immediately.
“I write about things I know and experience,” Merkel said of the new album. “The album contains songs of struggle, losing my mother, experiencing heartbreak, and yet how God is at the root of it all and sustains us through all things.”
The album contains 13 tracks produced, recorded and mixed in Nashville and St. Augustine, FL, by the capable and accomplished hands of Tony Tolliver and Jeff Silverman. A delicate and true vocal caresses the gentle melodies and spirit filled lyrics of each track. Messages of hope, triumph and inspiration welcome the listener and encourage communion.
“I write about things others can relate to but share it on a spiritual level,” Merkel said.
Merkel’s musical talents have long been known in the Merrill community. A Halloween song composed at the age of eight and performed by her entire class at school was Debbie’s first revelation that her songwriting and voice were to be shared. Influenced by Amy Grant and Bette Midler, she designs her music with notable honesty and feminine luminosity.
After her eldest son had a seizure and slipped into a coma, Debbie wrote the song Together which is also featured on the album. She dedicated this song to the Merrill Fire Department and paramedics who were instrumental in saving her son’s life. After 9/11, Debbie had the honor of joining other local artists in a television performance to raise funds for the recovery efforts of the horrific tragedy.
“The song is about feeling alone, but when we come together and celebrate God’s love, we can accomplish anything,” Merkel adds.
With faith in God and “hopes of accomplishing anything,” Debbie’s album stands to deliver a ray of light into the radio airwaves and offer listeners around the globe messages of love, hope and inspiration.
“With so much negativity in today’s world, I create positive, inspirational music from the heart which people can relate to,” she said. “My wish is to move you through my music and help you enrich your relationship with our God.”
