Robert G. Schmidt, age 59, of Merrill, died Monday, January 7, 2013, at his home, of natural causes.
Robert was born February 14, 1953, in Merrill, son of the late Freddie and Fern (Voigt) Schmidt. He married Linda Beyer on September 11, 1971. She survives. Robert was employed at Wausau Paper – Brokaw for 35 years, retiring in 2006. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hot rods and antique cars, playing cards, wrestling and football, and raising horses. Robert served honorably in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1971 until 1977. He was currently a member of the Lincoln County Am-Vets.
Survivors include his wife Linda Schmidt, Merrill; two children, Karla Schmidt and Robert (wife, Sherri) Beyer, both of Merrill; three grandchildren, Angel ( John) Huckbody of Minnesota, and Ashley Beyer and Tyler Schmidt, both of Merrill; two great grandchildren, Alexa and Ellie Huckbody; one brother, William (Evelyn) Schmidt, Athens; and seven sisters, Marge Baumann, Merrill, Shirley Pysnack of Auburn, New York, Nancy (Ace) Culbert of Hooper, Nebraska, Marlene Hughes of Kenai, Alaska, Kathy Kessler of Pulaski, Wisconsin, Rita (Dennis) Kremscreiter of Merrill, and Connie Hehling of Somerset, Wisconsin. Besides his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his infant son, Timothy Schmidt in 1983, one sister, June Tesch, and two brothers, Randy Schmidt and infant Jerry Schmidt.
A Memorial Service for Robert G. Schmidt will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 11, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate. Military rites will be conducted at the church on Friday by the Merrill V.F.W. Post 1638 Honor Guard. Visitation will begin at 12 Noon Friday at the church. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family.
