MPD joins in statewide recognition of adult school crossing guards

The Merrill Police Department will join the statewide Wisconsin Adult School Crossing Guard Recognition Week to be held Jan. 14-18, 2013. This recognition event was developed through a collaborative partnership of agencies and organizations representing the state, county, and local levels.
Since approximately 1979, the Merrill Police Department has utilized adult crossing guards to assist our school children in crossing streets on their way to and from school. The Merrill Police Department is proud of its four Adult School Crossing Guards and would like to pay tribute to all of them, especially during the week of Jan. 14-18.
These individuals provide this important service in any kind of weather imaginable. They diligently hold their posts through heat, thunderstorms, driving rain, frigid wind, and snow. And yet, they continue to ensure our kids get to and from school safely and without complaint.
This year, Crossing Guard Debra Hartwig is especially recognized for serving on her post for 10 years.
The Merrill Police Department thanks Debra Hartwig, Don Norman, Rich Dabbert and Gary Boes and encourages everyone to join us in making the week of Jan. 14-18, 2013 a very special one for Adult Crossing Guards in Wisconsin.
