T. B. Scott Free Library invites homeschooled children, along with their parents, to attend free library orientation sessions.
The first session, targeting kindergarten through grade two, will be presented at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, in the library storyhour room. This orientation program is modeled after programs offered annually to first graders in Merrill area schools.
The program will include a book care demonstration, how to choose a “just right” book, a brief tour of the youth services department and a puppet show. Pre-registered children in kindergarten through grade two will receive book bags stuffed with bookmarks, age-appropriate activity sheets and information for parents about the library and the importance of reading.
A second orientation session targeting children in grades three to six will be presented at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19 in the library storyhour room. The program will be modeled after programs offered annually to third graders in Merrill area schools.
Activities will include a story, an upbeat power point presentation about fiction genres and nonfiction, an explanation of how to find materials appropriate to age and reading level, and a brief tour of the library. Pre-registered children in grades three to six will receive book bags with bookmarks, activity sheets and information.
