Emily Anna Streich

Emily Anna Streich passed from this life on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, surrounded by family. Emily was born in Merrill on March 24, 1931, to Arnold and Lucy (Jahnke) Wyland. She attended Schulz Spur School and worked on the farm while growing up. She developed a love of horses and animals that she carried with her throughout her life. She met David Streich while roller skating, and they married on September 16, 1950 in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Merrill. They enjoyed a full, loving life together until David’s death in 2002. They had 5 children: Deborah Beiler, of Prescott, AZ; Kelly (Laurel) Streich, Michael (Mary) Streich and Scott (Paula) Streich, all of Merrill; and Cynthia (Donna) Streich, of Madison.
Emily loved children and had 6 grandchildren: Dominic and Jeremy Carstenson, Michelle Geiss, Christopher Streich, Anna and Elizabeth Streich, and Michelle Slewinski. She had 8 great-grandchildren: Alexandra and Caleb Carstenson, Michael Streich, Amanda and Melissa Becker, Josilyn and Madilynn Geiss, and Mitchel Schwartzman.
Emily was best of friends with her seven sisters (“The Magnificent Seven”). She was preceded in death by one of her sisters, Glorian Sukow. Surviving sisters include Patricia (Scott) Stevenson of Tomahawk, Verdaine Mattson of Merrill, Pearl Waldburger of Tomahawk, Delores Smith of Medford, Loretta (Ronald) Hulke of Florida, and Sandra (Fran) Doering of Arizona. She also had two brothers, Allan (Doris) Wyland of Montana, and Arnold (Carol) Wyland, Jr. of Merrill. She had many nieces and nephews she loved.
The family is especially grateful to the staff at Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill for their wonderful care of Emily as she endured the limitations Parkinson’s disease brought to her.
Emily loved working with people in service related work and volunteered with numerous organizations including HAVEN in Merrill.
Memorials can be made in Emily’s honor to: HAVEN; Lincoln County Humane Society; St. Francis Xavier Catholic School; or the Wisconsin Parkinson’s Association.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 P.M., Noon, Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill. Father Michael McLain will preside. Burial will take place in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 8:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill.
