Red Robins rout Hatchet boys

The Hatchet boys basketball team dropped its second GNC game of the season in Friday’s 62-35 home contest with Antigo.
Tomahawk fell behind 14-8 in the first quarter.
“We didn’t handle their 1-3-1 very well,” THS coach Tim Albert said. “We had several costly turnovers that led to easy baskets for the Red Robins.”
The Hatchets would have two more turnovers in their first three possessions of the second quarter, and Antigo took advantage and led 21-8. Tomahawk took better care of the basketball to close out the quarter. Antigo led 26-13 at the half.
“We did a better job against their 1-3-1 in the second quarter, we just couldn’t get anything to fall,” Albert said. “We got open looks, they just didn’t go in for us.”
Tomahawk cut into the Red Robin lead in the third quarter, as the Hatchets started the quarter on a 6-2 run, and trailed 28-19. Antigo responded with a 17-2 run and led 45-21 after three.
“We got off to a great start in the third, but we didn’t get any stops in the later portion of the third,” Albert said. “We had three straight turnovers that led to seven points and they closed the quarter on a 10-0 run.”
Jon Nyberg gave the group 7 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks. Other contributions came from; Chris Schoone (12 p); Jordan Roessler (7 p); Lorne Ahrens (4 p, 3 r); Jared Jarvensivu (4 r, 3 a); Jacob Sabielny (3 p).
Tomahawk-FG: 12-37 (32%); FT: 7-16 (44%).
Tomahawk fell to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the GNC. Antigo is 5-1 and 1-1.
