Red Robins rock Bluejays

The season didn’t exactly start out the way the MHS hockey team hoped.

The Bluejay boys were roughed up at Antigo last Tuesday by a 15-1 tally.
“Antigo is a very good team,” MHS coach Chase Nelson said. “They had 10 different kids score a goal.
“With that said, we did not play up to our ability. We were out of position all night and our feet were in slow motion. This night is over, the only good thing that came out of it is that now we know that we have to work harder if we want to be competitive this year.”
Merrill trailed 12-0 in the third period when Nick Hoffmann set up Dylan Heller for a score on the power play with 8:20 elapsed.
The Red Robins had built a 6-0 lead in the first period with a pair of goals from Elijah Wickersheim and two assists from Justen Wegter. Wickersheim first came 35 seconds into the contest. Dan Will netted a goal just five seconds into the second period as Antigo unleashed a 3-goal barrage in the first 47 seconds. The Red Robins led 11-0 by the end of the frame.
Wickersheim finished with 3 goals and 2 assists, and Alex Nagel matched him. Bailey Olson (1 g, 3 a), Will (2 g, 1 a), Justen Wegter (1 g, 2 a), Erik Schielke (1 g, 2 a), Jackson Charlesworth (1 g, 2 a) also gave the Red Robins multiple points.
