Viola I. Duwe, age 92, of Merrill, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.
Viola was born Sept. 16, 1920, in the Town of Corning, daughter of the late Robert and Elsa (Henrichs) Krueger. She married Herbert G. Duwe on March 2, 1948. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1987.
Viola had worked at the former Fromm Brothers farms and Weinbrenner Shoe Company, Merrill. She also worked as an assistant cook at Trinity Lutheran School, Merrill, for ten years. Viola was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill, where she assembled newsletters and Sunday bulletins, and assisted with funeral lunches. Viola enjoyed playing cards, taking casino trips on occasions, and traveling to Las Vegas.
Survivors include her daughter, Marlene Duwe, of Merrill; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; four sisters, Iva (Alvin) Wendt, Helen (Alfred) Pagel, Ruth Achterberg, and Eldora (Carl) Bloomquist; and three brothers, Leo (Louise) Krueger, Gerhart (Esther) Krueger, and Robert (A.J.) Krueger.
The funeral will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate. Entombment will be in Merrill Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church Radio Ministry, or Trinity Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran School.
