Lylas ?Lyle? Bauman

Lylas “Lyle” Bauman, 89, of Merrill, died peacefully at his home August 8, 2012 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services.

He was born in Merrill to the late Theodore & Selma (Zimmerman) Bauman on July 3, 1923. Lyle married Phyllis Schneider August 8, 1959, a marriage lasting 53 years.
Lyle attended Merrill Senior High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the 88th Division during WWII and after the war served in the National Guard for 5 years. Lyle worked at ROW factory and retail store for many years. He most recently worked as janitor for St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill. Lyle was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and had served as past president, elder and board member. He was very involved in the community with much time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. In his spare time, Lyle enjoyed scenic painting, woodworking and traveling but most especially, visiting with his family.
Survivors include his wife: Phyllis Bauman, Merrill; four children: Ruth Bauman, Milwaukee, Sara Nordling, Fort Wayne, IN, David Bauman, Little Canada, MN, and Mary Schmitt, Omaha, NE; two grandchildren: Jennifer (Jake) Thomas, Bellevue, NE, and Andrew Bauman, Little Canada, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Selma Bauman, and two brothers, Raymond Baumann and Ardell Baumann.
Per Lyle’s wishes, there will a private family gathering at a later date. Donations may be made to Trinity School Tuition Assistance Fund. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
