Janet Edwards Smith

Janet Edwards Smith died Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.
She was born on December 10, 1914, in Davenport, Iowa, daughter of the late Clyde and Elsie (Haldall) Edwards. Janet graduated from Rock Island Illinois High School in 1933, and then from the Rock Island Business College. On June 30, 1937, Janet married John E. Smith in Davenport. They then made their home in Gleason, Wisconsin. Janet was a stay at home mother until later in life. She worked for 10 years at the former Montgomery Ward Store in Merrill, and then worked for 10 years at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, as a nurse’s aide. Janet was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star where she served as chaplain. She was an active member of the Riverside Presbyterian Church, Gleason. For 20 years Janet taught Sunday school at the church, and for 25 years thereafter she remained active in the church, serving on various committees such as the Elders.
Janet is survived by her daughter, Stephany J. “Stevie” Smith, Merrill; her niece, Pamela Fritz, Walnut, Illinois; as well as other nieces, nephews, and their children. Janet is preceded in death by her husband, John E. Smith; a daughter and son in law, Roberta and William Adamski; and her son, John C. “Jack” Smith.
Private burial of Janet’s cremated remains will take place in the Gleason Cemetery, Town of Russell, at a later date.
