Walter Jacobs

Walter Jacobs, of Gleason, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012 at Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill. He was 83 years old.
He was born on Feb. 17, 1928 in the Town of Vilas, a son of Louis and Bessie (Tichacek) Jacobs. He married Susan Ullman on Aug. 10, 1968 at Luther Memorial Church in Gleason. She survives.
He was a graduate of Antigo High School in 1945 where he played on the football team.
He served with the United States Army in 1951 and 1952. He worked on the iron-ore boats on the Great Lakes. In the late 1950’s he returned to the town in Vilas to operate a potato farm. In 1961 he purchased a farm that the family continues to operate today. Over the years he operated the farm by growing potatos, raising beef cattle and later as a dairy farm.
He was co-founder and for several years part-owner of Northern Wire which continues to operate today in Merrill.
He played slow pitch baseball for Doering. Mr. Jacobs enjoyed bowling, riding his fourwheeler, gator and golf cart. He will long be remembered for the hayrides and fourwheeler trips taken with family and friends.
Survivors including his wife are two sons Timothy Jacobs and Bobbi, Deerbrook, Jeffrey Jacobs, Gleason; a brother David (Marilyn) Jacobs, Nekoosa; a brother-in-law Eugene Parizek, Gleason.
He was preceded in death by a brother Donald Jacobs and a sister Karen Parizek.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Anderson officiating. Burial will take place in Forestview Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
