Trapper catches wolf in Pine River

The Lincoln County recreation deputy and a warden from the DNR assisted a local trapper after a timber wolf became caught in a trap this weekend.

On Sunday just after 11 a.m. the trapper contacted the Sheriff’s Office and reported that a foot trap he had set in the Town of Pine River had caught a timber wolf. The recreation deputy and warden responded to the area and found the timber wolf laying on the ground apparently exhausted from trying to escape the trap. The trap was the sort of trap which places a hold on the animal but does not injure or incapacitate it. The two officers were able to use animal catch poles to release the trap from a distance. After a short time the timber wolf got up and ran away apparently uninjured in the incident.
