Florence E. Shook

Florence E. Shook, age 87, of Merrill, died Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.
Florence was born May 6, 1924, in the Town of Corning, Lincoln County, daughter of the late William and Amanda (Bartelt) Berndt. She married Edward D. Shook on January 29, 1949, in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on January 15, 1987. Florence, along with her husband, enjoyed Polka music and dancing. Together they traveled many miles to dances and Polka Festivals. Florence wrote about their polka adventures in a column entitled “Here and There” for the “Polka News”, “Polkaworld”, and “National Polka” publications.
Florence is survived by a sister in law, Leota Berndt, Merrill; and ten nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; four sisters, Mayme Humboldt, Lorinda Gilk, Myrtle Wais, and Eldora Berndt; one brother, Martin Berndt; a niece, Mary Lou Juneau; a nephew, Charles Humboldt, Jr.; and her dear friend, Alice Kriewald.
Her funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 19, 2012, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Pastor Missy Holdorf will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Town of Corning. Visitation will begin at 12 Noon Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to St. Stephens United Church of Christ, Merrill.
