Roger H. Emanuel

Roger H. Emanuel, age 88, of Merrill, died Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Walnut Grove, Merrill.
Roger was born April 27, 1923, in Merrill, son of the late Harvey and Clara (Yaeger) Emanuel. He married Ruth Murphy on December 30, 1944, and she preceded him in death on February 10, 1975. Roger then married Darla Laffin in November of 1977. She survives. Roger was the former General Manager of Lincoln Wood Products, Inc., Merrill, now retired. He enjoyed fishing; golfing; and bowling. Roger was a member of the Merrill Bowling Hall of Fame. In his younger years he played with the Merrill Rangers. Roger was a U.S. Naval veteran of World War II, proudly serving as a Gunners Mate on the USS Strong in the Pacific Theater. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill.
Roger is survived by his wife, Darla Emanuel, Merrill; daughter, Rogene (Jeff) Janik, Merrill; (2) sons, Kevin (Kristine) Emanuel, Merrill, and Brian (Carol) Emanuel, Baraboo; (12) grandchildren, Nate (RaeAnn) Janik and Ben Janik, both of Madison, John (Jennifer) Emanuel, Junction City, Or, Bryan Emanuel, Daniel (Ashlee) Emanuel, and Christian Emanuel, all of Eugene, OR, Jason (Angel) Emanuel and Zachary (Stephanie) Emanuel, both of Redmond, OR, Brad (Jamie) Emanuel, Merrill, Jody (Lindsey) Emanuel, N. Attleboro, Massachusetts, Greg (Tara) Emanuel, Merrill, and Casey Emanuel, La Crosse; (14) great grandchildren, Shaylyn, Noah, Carter, Ruby, Cody, Austin, Chase, Austyn, Conner, Tyler, Melissa, Jordan, Raegan, and Evan; (4) sisters, Betty (Donald) Krueger, St. Germain, Elaine Gano, Wausau, JoAnn Johnson and Mary Ann Riebe, both of Merrill; (1) brother, Harvey (Betty) Emanuel, Jr., Palm Coast, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Roger is preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth; (1) son, Steve Emanuel; and (2) brothers, Infant James Emanuel and Gerald Emanuel.
Roger’s funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate. Entombment will take place in Merrill Memorial Park Mausoleum, with graveside military rites conducted by the Merrill V.F.W. Post 1638 Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and at the church on Wednesday after 9:30 A.M.
