Thomas O. Weisenberger

Thomas O. “Tom” Weisenberger, age 83, of Merrill, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center.
Tom was born May 18, 1928, in Marathon County, son of the late Albert and Alma (Burk) Weisenberger. He married Geraldine Schilling on Aug. 8, 1951, in Wausau. She survives.
From 1966 until 1976, Tom was the owner/operator of “Weisenberger Enterprises” in Brokaw. Prior to retirement, Tom drove truck for 16 years for “Burgener Contract Carriers” in Merrill. He enjoyed hunting and fishing; motorcycling; and cross country skiing. For 10 years, Tom and his son Jeff participated in the Birkebeiner Race in Hayward. Tom was a US Navy veteran of World War II. He was stationed aboard the USS Tucson in the Sea of Japan. Tom was a member of the Merrill VFW Post 1638, a former quarter master for the post, and he proudly served with the “Honor Guard.”
Survivors include his wife Geraldine Weisenberger, Merrill; one daughter, Pam Sillars, Wausau; one son, Jeff (Brenda) Weisenberger, Brokaw; four grandchildren, Eric Sillars, Chippewa Falls, Dawn Sillars, Wausau, Troy (Stephanie) Weisenberger, Wausau, and Jody Weisenberger, Kronenwetter; and two great grandchildren, Breana and Ryan Weisenberger both of Wausau. Tom is preceded in death by two sisters, Eunice Welsh and Signa Schmidt; and also by three brothers, Norman, Ervin, and Howard.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Merrill Memorial Park. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Merrill VFW Post 1638 Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the “Never Forgotten Honor Flight.”
