Mitten Tree a Merrill tradition

The Mitten Tree has reappeared at Miller’s Home Furnishings in Merrill for the 30th year. The public is invited to purchase, knit or crochet mittens, hats, socks and scarves to hang on the tree.

The Mitten Tree is sponsored by the Merrill Westside Merchants and Wally Smith of Miller’s Home Furnishings. The tree itself was donated by Priebe Spring Hill Evergreen, 2611 Hwy. 17, Merrill.

The Girl Scout Cadets of Troop 7074 at Prairie River Middle School and Merrill High School created posters to promote the tree for a 6th straight year. The troop also donated items to hang on the tree.

“The community has always been so supportive of the Mitten Tree and it is with a big heartfelt thank you to you that the project has been such a success all these years,” said Mitten Tree coordinator Sandy Hull. “It means so much to the children whose heads, hands and feet won’t be cold this winter.”

The items from the tree are made available to children who need them through the Merrill area schools.
