Blooms on Main offers the personal touch
The decision to open Blooms on Main was made over lunch one day. The three soon-to-be business partners finished their lunch at Checkered Churn, and walked across the street to check out a vacant building at 911 E. Main St. By that weekend, they rented it.
Maxine Plamann, Brenda Wendt, and Tanya Kleinschmidt went right to work turning the small building into a full-service floral shop with a unique personality.
“We’re going for the unique and different look,” the trio said. “We’re looking for new lines of product that nobody has.”
To initially furnish the store, the ladies went home and scrounged up interesting items to use for display space. The result is a mix of antique, retro and modern that dresses up the shop from floor to ceiling. A fresh coat of bright colors gives the shop an inviting atmosphere.
The co-owners bring a combined 23 years of experience in the floral industry. They are thankful to the customers who followed them from their previous places of employment to the new shop. They are also thankful for the support they’ve received from their families and other Merrill businesses in getting the new shop off the ground.
Blooms on Main can handle anything from a single small floral arrangement to weddings and funerals, working with fresh or silk flowers, or a combination of the two.
Customized arrangements are a specialty.
“A lot of people are getting away from the traditional look and are wanting unique and different styles,” they said. “Customers want us to push the limits. They want to see things that are new and exciting. It’s about the whole atmosphere as you walk in the door.”
Blooms on Main can create a special arrangement around an item provided by the customer.
“We like to do personable pieces, above and beyond the norm,” the trio said. “We do a lot of home dècor pieces as well.
“Each one of us brings our own characteristics to the business. There’s a lot of creativity in this one little building,” they added.
The inventory of gifts is always changing with new items coming in weekly.
“We want to change it up weekly so it’s always new and different.”
One unique service being offered by Blooms on Main is the Friday Night Drive-up. Customers can purchase a dozen roses or a bunch of fresh flowers without ever leaving their vehicle. Store owners are on the street in front of the store from 5-7 p.m. every Friday night to offer that customer convenience. They will be doing it through the summer until the weather turns cold in the fall.
Blooms on Main now has the power of worldwide delivery through Bloomnet.
Serving the customer is a big emphasis at Blooms on Main.
“We have a tremendous amount of loyalty and respect and love for every customer that comes through the door,” Brenda said.
