LeRoy Sherer

LeRoy Sherer, 94, Tomahawk, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at his daughter’s home in Merrill. He was born June 22, 1916 in Quincy, Illinois, son of the late Alfred and Ruth (Marcie’) Sherer. LeRoy married Winifred Brown in Warrenton, MO on April 15, 1941. She preceded him in death September 17, 1998.
Roy served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a radio and signal man in the South Pacific Theatre. He and his wife ran Sherer’s Floral in Tomahawk for 40 years, retiring in 1992. Roy was a member of Inshalla Golf Club in Tomahawk and was also a member of Berean Baptist Church in Tomahawk. He loved hunting and fishing. Roy truly appreciated the ministry given to him by the Gleason Mennonite Community.
Survivors include his daughter: Gaylin (Kenneth Sr.) Brewington, Merrill; son: Cameron (Marcheta) Sherer, Evans, GA; four grandchildren: Heather Skulan, Kenneth Brewington Jr, Christy Harrison and Ashley Colson; great-grandchildren Tristan and Laura; and step great-grandchildren Silvio and Brittany. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters and two brothers.
Services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Waid Funeral Home. Pastor Luke Martin will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Friday, March 11, 2011 and again from 9-10 AM Saturday, all at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery, Tomahawk. Military honors will be performed by Local VFW Post #1638. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
