Edwin Casimir Sandas

Edwin Casimir Sandas, 93, Merrill, died peacefully at his home Thursday, March 3, 2011 surrounded by his loving family.

Born on October 3, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late John and Veronica (Wolyavich) Sandas. Ed married Blanche ‘Bonnie’ Ristvedt on October 11, 1947 in Tomahawk.
Ed attended school in Chicago. He moved to Merrill in 1936 when he started his mink ranch and worked there until 1989. Ed lived in Merrill on the same property for 75 years. He was an avid pilot and enjoyed flying, traveling, music and his children. Ed was a member of Knights of Columbus and St. Francis Church where he served as an altar boy and usher. He loved sports and had coached little league in the past.
Survivors include his wife: Blanche ‘Bonnie’ Sandas, Merrill; four children: Mary Beth (Alan) Appel, Bayfield, WI, Edwin (Susan) Sandas, Manitowish Waters, WI, Susan Sandas, Eau Claire and Kevin (Roxanne) Sandas, Merrill; 10 grandchildren: Ryan McMullin, Katie (Todd) Casey, Riley McMullin, Amy (Shannon) Sandas, Angelique Sandas, Jesse (Molly) Sandas, Jonathan Lienhardt , Annie Lienhardt, Shad Sandas and Rachel (Shannon) Sandas; four great-grandchildren; and niece: Barbara Winblad, Chicago, IL.
The Mass will be held at noon Monday, March 7, 2011 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Father Mike McLain will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass at the church.
