Joel J. Proft, age 56, of Merrill, died Monday, February 21, 2011, at his home.
Joe was born December 7, 1954, in Merrill, son of the late Walter and Joyce (Hassel) Proft. He was currently employed at Dave’s County Market in Merrill. Joe was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed following baseball, especially the Milwaukee Brewers; the Green Bay Packers; Milwaukee Bucks; and Wisconsin Badgers. Joe enjoyed playing cards and pool, and both music and sports trivia.
Survivors include his son, Eric (Mandy) Hare, Florida; two grandchildren, Devin and Dane Hare, both of Florida; one sister, Penny Callahan, Merrill; two brothers, Jay (Linda) Proft, Sr., Merrill, and Rick Proft, Oregon, Wisconsin; two nieces, Amy (Jesse) Heckendorf, and Vicki (Chad) Oberg, both of Merrill; one nephew, Jay (Katie) Proft, Jr., Merrill; and several great nieces and nephews. Joe is preceded in death by one brother in law, Neil Callahan.
A memorial service for Joe will be at 12 Noon, Saturday, February 26, 2011, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 A.M. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting with arrangements.
